All about East Jerusalem

The section of Jerusalem that is located in the eastern part of the city is referred to as East Jerusalem, and it is typically considered to be one of the most disputed places in all of the world. This is due to the fact that Israelis and Palestinians, who both claim it as their capital city, have been at war with one another over it. Both sides view Jerusalem as their holy city and believe it should be their capital.

East Jerusalem was a part of Palestinian territory until Israel captured it in 1967 during the Six-Day War. Since then, East Jerusalem has been a part of Israel. As a result of this occupation, East Jerusalem was given its current name, East Jerusalem. Following the conclusion of the war, Israel proceeded to annex the region in question, a move that was met with severe condemnation from the rest of the world.

Today, there are around 300,000 Palestinians who make their homes in the neighborhood of East Jerusalem. This is roughly 38 percent of the overall population of the city. In addition, a sizeable number of Israeli settlements have been established in the region, despite the fact that such establishments are illegal under the norms established by the international community.

The status of the Old City, which includes some of the most important religious sites in the world, such as the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Western Wall, is one of the most contentious topics in East Jerusalem. The Old City is home to some of the most significant religious sites in the world. This is due to the fact that the Old City is home to many of the most sacred buildings in the entire city. The Old City is divided into four parts: the Jewish Quarter, the Muslim Quarter, the Christian Quarter, and the Armenian Quarter. A different religious community predominates in each of these sections.

This region also contains the Temple Mount, which is located in the Old City and is regarded as one of the holiest locations in Judaism as well as the third holiest destination in Islam. The inability of Palestinians to enter the region is one factor that contributes to the frequent violence that erupts between them and Israeli security officers. Israeli security personnel conduct a significant amount of patrolling in the area.

In addition to the Old City, East Jerusalem is the location of a great deal of other historically and culturally significant landmarks. The Mount of Olives, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and the Rockefeller Museum are a few examples of these sites.

In spite of the many roadblocks that are currently in place in the region, efforts are being made to find a solution to the conflict that is currently taking place in East Jerusalem that will hold for the long term. The idea that Israel and Palestine can live side by side in peace as two independent and sovereign countries, with Jerusalem serving as the capital of both, is known as the “two-state solution,” and it has been a priority for the international community to work toward this goal.

However, given that Israelis and Palestinians have viewed each other with hostility and mistrust for such a significant amount of time, accomplishing this objective will continue to be a difficult endeavour. In spite of this, there is optimism that a solution may be found that will make it feasible to have peace and stability in East Jerusalem as well as in the region that surrounds it. QC Passed.
